Novos Alagados
Emaús Novos Alagados ist ein gemeinnütziger Verein, der mithilfe von Erlösen aus einer Kreislaufwirtschaft soziale Einrichtungen in der comunidade Novos Alagados, einer Favela mit über 20.000 Einwohnern, am Rande der Großstadt Salvador unterstützt. Der Verein gehört zum weltweit tätigen Emaús-Hilfswerk.
Emaús Novos Alagados is a non-profit organization that uses proceeds from a circular economy to support social institutions in the comunidade Novos Alagados, a favela with over 20,000 inhabitants, on the outskirts of the metropolis of Salvador. The association belongs to the worldwide Emaús relief organization.
Emaús Novos Alagados wurde im Jahre 2012 mit der Zielsetzung gegründet, die bereits seit den 80er Jahren bestehenden Sozial-Projekte in der Favela finanziell abzusichern. Hierbei handelt es sich um das Jugendheim Cluberê, die Schule Escola Popular und die Kintertagesstätte Antonio Lazzarotto. Aber nicht nur diese drei sozialen Einrichtungen profitieren hiervon: ärmere Familien können dank des günstigen Second-Hand-Angebotes Kleidung, Möbel, Küchengeräte u.a. mehr zu sehr niedrigen Preisen erwerben.
Emaús Novos Alagados was founded in 2012 with the aim of providing financial security for social projects in the favela that have existed since the 1980s. These include the Cluberê youth center, the Escola Popular school, and the Antonio Lazzarotto daycare center. But it's not just these three social institutions that benefit from this work: thanks to second-hand goods, poorer families can purchase clothing, furniture, kitchen appliances, and much more at very affordable prices.
Die Ober- und Mittelschicht in Brasilien hat ein anderes Konsumverhalten als die ärmere Bevölkerung. Kleidung, Möbel, Haushaltsgeräte, Fernseher und viele andere Dinge werden häufig durch Neuanschaffungen ersetzt, ohne dass diese wirklich aufgebraucht oder kaputt sind. Und wenn, dann sind es meistens nur Kleinigkeiten. Was für die Reichen eine Entsorgung ist, ist für die Armen eine Versorgung mit Gütern zu günstigen Preisen.
The upper and middle class in Brazil has a different consumption behavior than the poorer population. Clothing, furniture, household appliances, televisions, and many other things are often replaced with new purchases, even when they are not really used up or broken. And if they are, it is usually only minor issues. What is disposal for the rich is a supply of goods at affordable prices for the poor.
Nach telefonischer Absprache fährt Emaús zwei- oder dreimal in der Woche mit einem kleinen Transporter in die besseren Stadtviertel, um Schenkungen abzuholen. In den projekteigenen Werkstätten werden diese Sachen ausgebessert bzw. repariert und danach im Bazar und einem 500 Meter entfernt liegenden Second-Hand-Laden zu günstigen Preisen angeboten.
After arranging by phone, Emaús goes out 2-3 times a week with a small van to collect donations in the better neighborhoods. In the project's own workshops, the items are patched up or repaired and then offered as second-hand goods at affordable prices in the favela.
