Die Ober- und Mittelschicht in Brasilien hat ein anderes Konsumverhalten als die ärmere Bevölkerung. Kleidung, Möbel, Haushaltsgeräte, Fernseher und viele andere Dinge werden häufig durch Neuanschaffungen ersetzt, ohne dass diese wirklich aufgebraucht oder kaputt sind. Und wenn, dann sind es meistens nur Kleinigkeiten. Was für die Reichen eine Entsorgung ist, ist für die Armen eine Versorgung mit Gütern zu günstigen Preisen.
The upper and middle class in Brazil has a different consumption behavior than the poorer population. Clothing, furniture, household appliances, televisions, and many other things are often replaced with new purchases, even when they are not really used up or broken. And if they are, it is usually only minor issues. What is disposal for the rich is a supply of goods at affordable prices for the poor.
Nach telefonischer Absprache fährt Emaús zwei- oder dreimal je Woche mit einem kleinen Transporter los, um Schenkungen in den besseren Stadtvierteln abzuholen. In den projekteigenen Werkstätten werden die Sachen ausgebessert bzw. repariert und danach als Second-Hand-Waren zu günstigen Preisen in der Favela angeboten.
After arranging by phone, Emaús goes out 2-3 times a week with a small van to collect donations in the better neighborhoods. In the project's own workshops, the items are patched up or repaired and then offered as second-hand goods at affordable prices in the favela.
